Odds and Ends...

This next week is kind f an odd week for my theme and things.  We are finished with Halloween and pumpkins, but it's too early to start thanksgiving, so we are going to be doing some odds and ends projects.  I have a few left over scarecrow projects and fall activities, but I really don't have many creative ideas... anyone out there have anything for me this week?
Here are some things from the past couple of weeks that went well:
Some simple fall décor:

Paint a paper plate orange, add a leaf and stem and you're finished!

This is a simple pumpkin shape project that we made.  It's a 5x6" rectangle for the orange pumpkin 2x1" stem and a 2x3" green leaf.  I gave them a black strip of paper to make their own face.  Some of them were interesting, but I forgot to take a picture before I sent them home with the students.

Leaf wind socks.  I just cut construction paper in half long ways for the base.  The strips are 1" by about 4" because I'm tall and don't like hitting my head on them all day.  There are tons of leaf patterns to color and cut in google images.

This is another shape art project.  We read 5 little pumpkins and then acted out the story.  We also did a youtube video of the story which the kids loved.

Here's the youtube video:

From a couple of weeks ago you can see our Mrs. Wishy Washy bulletin board.  We colored and cut out animals, then we added "mud" by mixing brown paint and shaving cream.  It dries fluffy like mud and the kids loved it.

Going along with our farm unit a couple of weeks ago we graphed our favorite farm animals.  I like to always asks the students "what can you tell me about the graph" and then record what they tell me.

For the letter Pp we made our own pizzas!  This is one of my favorite projects.  The students each made their own paper plate pizza with their favorite pizza toppings.  We then graphed as a class which toppings they liked on their pizza.  They loved this project as much as I do, and it's a great bulletin board when you're finished!

With our fall unit we did spider color graphing.  Each student has their own graph at their desks and take turns coming up to pick out a spider.   You can click the image below to get the worksheet.

this is something from the Mrs. Ricca pack that I posted about earlier.

And this is a super easy center that the students were amazed by.  You can print any type of image and then trace over them with puff paint.  They will then turn into stencils great for rubbings.  We did real rubbings as well with leaves we found outside, but these seem to show up better and the students were amazed.

Apple Unit

We finished up our apple unit this week.  We had fun with our final "Apple Day" on Friday.  Here are some of the projects we did:
We made apple print and saw the apple stars.  We also made the mosaic apples.

We made a class apple book with my favorite type of apple page

Pin the stem on the apple

We made croc pot applesauce

We also made apple juice which the kids were amazed by using my Jack Lalanne Power Juice, which I love!

We also played pin the stem on the apple which the students thought was so funny.  We will also play pin the stem on the pumpkin in the fall.

Math Centers

I am looking for new ideas and concepts for math centers.  I started math centers last year and loved them.  They consisted of 5 tubs (purchased at Dollar Tree).  Inside the tub was everything the students would need to complete the center.  On the outside a put Velcro with group numbers- this way I could switch the group number easily each day.  Some days, I would pull and work with groups, other days I would work with individual students.  I got many of my management ideas from Kim Adsit.  You can click here and read about how her centers are ran.  I changed mine some to meet my needs in the classroom.  I found that teaching my new math centers or playing the math game as a whole group before we started was very helpful.  We usually went over all the centers at our circle area together for the first few months.  Once you establish the rules and expectations math centers are great!  Here is an example of the types of math centers I use in my classroom:

I was looking for more math centers on all of the shapes we are to cover in kindergarten with the common core.  I found these great posters on TPT for free!  They are from Intentional Momma. Click  on her picture below to link to her TPT store to print it!

You can print them smaller if you click to print multiple pages her sheet on your printing options before you click to print.  I would like them smaller (2 per page- you could even make 4 per page).  I will then gather objects around the room that are these shapes and have the students sort them.  You could also have them go around the room and find these shapes in the classroom and sort them.

I have created some simple numbers for on your math tubs.  I got the borders at my cute graphics you can click here to see all of their free borders.  Click the picture below to download the numbers for your math tubs:

I also make a lot of roll and cover games.  They are easy to make and fun for kids because they can be played many different ways.  You can start with all of the pictures covered and then have the students roll the dice and take off that many objects, you can play the opposite way where you roll the dice and put objects over the pictures.  You could also roll two dice.  I also do add and covers or roll and cover for addition or number recognition practice.  The documents below are examples.  They are some of my first TPT creations- they are all little crude- but this kids don't seem to mine!

There are other games like these at my TPT store.
