Apple Unit

We finished up our apple unit this week.  We had fun with our final "Apple Day" on Friday.  Here are some of the projects we did:
We made apple print and saw the apple stars.  We also made the mosaic apples.

We made a class apple book with my favorite type of apple page

Pin the stem on the apple

We made croc pot applesauce

We also made apple juice which the kids were amazed by using my Jack Lalanne Power Juice, which I love!

We also played pin the stem on the apple which the students thought was so funny.  We will also play pin the stem on the pumpkin in the fall.

Apples

We have an apple theme in the classroom this week.  On Friday we will be having "Apple Day" where student will bring in apples and we will do all kinds of fun activities with apples.  I will post pictures later this week.

Here are a couple of projects we have been working on:

We made these mosaic apples, but they didn't turn out how I wanted.  I made the apples too big and the strips of paper too small.  They didn't have enough time to fill in the whole apple.  These were about 8" wide.  Too big!  Next time I will make about a 5" apple or have larger strips of paper for the kids to rip.

This is our Seasons of the Apple Tree book.  With our apple unit we talk about the seasons and what they look and feel like.  We then related it back to what an apple tree would look like and make this book.  There is a poem that goes along with it.

I stand bare in wintertime, in the cold gray light

And wait for spring to come to me, with bloom of pink and white.

In summertime I wear green leaves, and soak up sunshine's heat.

So in the fall my limbs bow low, with apples crisp and sweet.

Here is one my centers this week which is great for names and fine motor.  The students punch out dots using a hole puncher and then glue them into their name outlines.

The First Day activities

Ugg, the beginning of school.  I forget what it's like...
Here's what we have been doing this week so far.
We have been going up on rules and procedures nonstop.  We are using the stoplight system this year- but rumor is next year we will have a change school wide.  I'm interested to see what it will be.  You can print my stoplight system by clicking on my classroom management link and scrolling down.
We have also read The Kissing Hand, and a Kiss Goodbye.  They are both Chester the Raccoon books.  I used to read the bully book as well, but it was a little too wordy for kinders.  Here are some of the projects we have done:
Great project.  My class was quiet while doing this, then I sprinkled it with "magic sparkles" (AKA glitter) if they made their dots.  This is from Mrs. Ricca you can get it here
We mad raccoons out of heart shapes.  I cut out all of the shapes and we practice the dot of glue.  You can get a good idea of what students can follow directions from this activity.

We did handprints on hearts for the first day.  I tried paint prints but without a sink in the room and the bathroom many doors down, I've used the large ink pads.  This way students can use a wet wipe to wipe their hands.  Simple and fun for the first day!

Open House Snack

These are my snacks for open house.  I think they are pretty cute!  Click the image to download.  For 20 kids I used about 2 bags of goldfish.  I used the small snack ziplock bags and taped on the paper.

I fixed the link to a PDF file so the fonts aren't messed up

Last year I used Swedish fish, but it ended up costing me a fortune to buy enough of the candy.  I needed quite a few in the bag to make it look full, so goldfish were much better!

Shark Folder and Labels

Here are some of the labels I have been working on.  These labels I will use for my behavior chart and centers charts.  you can click them image below to download and edit them!

These labels I am printing on sticky paper and sticking to the front of the student's shark folders.  The shark folders go back and forth to school everyday.  Inside I will have a sheet protector with the snack calendar inside.  I also found some sticky pockets at the teacher store that I am adding to the inside where parents can put money or notes for me.  I've never used these before so I'm trying them out this year.   I will have some pics of the Shark folders soon.  Click below to get my editable Shark folder labels.

Labels and such

This year I am going to do all of my labels and name tags on my computer.  In past year I have written them all out, but I think I will like have them typed much more.  I am looking for a free font with dashed lines so that I can create my own desk nameplates.  I saw this great idea of using Velcro because I'm so tired of kids picking the book tape I normally use.

I also saw this great idea for dry erase board erasers.  I have seen these things at the dollar tree-they are facial cleaners that I believe come 2/$1.  I saw this on pinterest, but the picture is not linked so I don't know who posted this
